Job Description

Helping People | Addressing Needs | Improving Lives

As an approved employer under the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, MADEC supports workers from Pacific Island countries and Timor-Leste to access meaningful employment in Australia, while providing Australian employers with a reliable workforce.

About the Role

As a Regional Liaison Officer, you will be the key point of contact and trusted support for PALM Scheme workers while they live and work in Australia. This is a highly people-focused role where no two days are the same.

You will provide pastoral care, practical support, and advocacy to help workers settle into their new environment, remain safe and well, and succeed in their employment. Your work plays a critical role in worker wellbeing, productivity, and overall program success.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Building strong, respectful relationships with workers through regular check-ins and on-site visits
  • Providing pastoral care and practical support, including assistance with accommodation, transport, medical appointments, travel, and community connections
  • Acting as the first point of contact for worker enquiries and concerns
  • Identifying wellbeing, safety, or workplace issues early and escalating when required
  • Supporting worker inductions, arrivals, and departures
  • Liaising between workers, host employers, service providers, and MADEC teams
  • Promoting health, safety, and wellbeing, including conducting toolbox talks and supporting WHS requirements
  • Providing out-of-hours support when needed, including evenings and weekends

This role requires flexibility, resilience, and a genuine commitment to supporting people who are living and working away from home.

Desired Skills and Experience

Who Will Thrive in This Role

We’re looking for people with:

  • Strong people skills – able to build trust, guide conversations, resolve issues calmly, and support positive outcomes
  • Empathy and cultural sensitivity – a genuine respect for different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences
  • Resilience and adaptability – comfortable managing competing priorities and supporting people through challenging situations
  • Clear communication skills – confident communicating with workers, employers, and service providers
  • Problem-solving ability – able to respond practically and thoughtfully to a wide range of enquiries
  • Organisation and accountability – managing documentation, follow-ups, and compliance requirements

You don’t need formal experience in labour mobility or pastoral care. Many people from backgrounds such as community services, support work, customer service, hospitality, retail, administration, education, health, or multicultural services have thrived in this role.

What matters most are your people skills, judgement, cultural awareness, and commitment to helping others succeed.
